Interns exploring New Zealand

Overview

A distinctive biodiversity, and a country named after a bird.

New Zealand's isolation has given it plant and animal life found nowhere else. The South Island still carries the marks of the ice age in its steep mountains and deep fiords, while volcanism defines the North. Together they form one of Earth's most spectacular bioregions, home to flightless birds such as the kiwi.

New Zealand's culture draws mainly on Māori and early British settlers, broadened in recent decades by immigration. Mixing rural and colonial values, it is cosmopolitan and multicultural, reflecting its changing demographics.

The kiwi is both a national symbol and the name New Zealanders give themselves — a measure of how much nature shapes life here. That same fertile land underpins a thriving export economy, with wool, dairy, meat and wine that carry a global reputation for quality.

Advances

New Zealand, off the clock.

Optional cultural add-ons that turn an internship into a season you will keep telling people about.

Trip to Queenstown

Set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu beneath the Remarkables Range, Queenstown is the Southern Hemisphere's leading four-season alpine and lake resort.

Boat Cruise at Fiordland National Park

Mountains and valleys on a scale that is hard to take in, rainfall measured in metres — a boat cruise is the finest way to see this corner of the world.

Māori Cultural Experience

An evening of ceremony, performance, storytelling and a hāngī feast in a pre-European village set within native Tawa forest, with haka, weaving and warrior traditions to join in.

Hiking at Mount Maunganui

A choice of tracks climbs a dormant volcano to sweeping views over the harbour, the beach and the Pacific — well worth the effort.
